Teach Belly Dance
the Learn Belly Dance way

The LBD teacher training course is delivered in modules taught at weekends over a period of approximately nine months. There will be a series of assessments throughout the course both practical and written that will test these competencies. The course has two levels of qualification - Dance Leader (this can be achieved after attending the first two modules) and LBD Dance Teacher which will be awarded on successful completion of the full course.

The cost will be £175 per module and there will be six core modules for full Dance Teacher training. We are working with colleagues in further education to enable us to link the course to established teaching and leading qualifications. Attendees on the course will be expected to be able to dance at at least intermediate level (there will be a brief assessment of this) and to be able to work at undergraduate level to get the most out of the course.

The idea behind the modular system is to enable those students who already have teaching experience (whether in belly dance or other disciplines) to attend those elements of the course that they need - there will be the option of assessment only for each module should this be the case. The assessment only option will carry a fee to cover assessment time.

Further details of the course and its content will be provided at the introductory session which will be held in the autumn but, in summary, the course will cover:

- Dance technique and skill
- Safe teaching practice
- Lesson planning and planned learning
- Managing students and classes
- Personal presentation
- Inclusive teaching and equal opportunities
- The Learn Belly Dance philosophy and method
- Experiential and clinical anatomy
- Ethics, etiquette and working with other teachers
- Finance, the law and marketing

You will be expected to gain practical experience of teaching as part of the course.

The course will be structured so that you will be equipped with the abililty to lead dance classes after the first two modules have been completed. A full set of teaching skills will be aquired over the length of the course.

Most of the course will be delivered by Katy C but other LBD teachers will be involved especially in providing opportunities for practical experience and teaching practice.

There will be optional modules for teaching at higher levels and a module on belly dance styles and techniques if required
