Teach Belly Dance
the Learn Belly Dance way

a

The LBD teacher training course is delivered in modules taught at weekends. The foundation, Dance Leader, qualification has two modules and the full LBD Dance Teacher qualification has six. There are a series of assessments throughout the course both practical and written that will test these competencies.

The cost is £175 per module so £350 to qualify as a Dance Leader. Dance Leaders will be equipped with the appropriate skills and knowledge to safely lead and organise bellydance classes in the community. They will understand risk assessment and safety, the principles of exercise to music and how to enable participation of all women. Dance Teachers will have further skills for planning class development, business and marketing knowledge and presenting belly dance to different groups of students as well as a more detailed study of the origins and practice of belly dance in 21st Century.

Attendees on the course will be expected to be able to dance at at least intermediate level (there will be a brief assessment of this) and to be able to work at undergraduate level to get the most out of the course.

The idea behind the modular system is to enable trainees to balance their other commitments with teacher training.

Further details of the course and its content is available from Katy C but, in summary, the course covers:

- Principles of teaching in the community
- Safe teaching practice
- Lesson planning and planned learning
- Dance technique and skill
- Managing students and classes
- Personal presentation
- Inclusive teaching and equal opportunities
- The Learn Belly Dance philosophy and method
- Physiology and anatomy
- Ethics, etiquette and working with other teachers
- Finance, the law and marketing

You will be expected to gain practical experience of teaching as part of the course.

For 2011/12 we are offering the Dance Leader qualification in two weekend modules: Module 1 on 3 and 4 December focussed on the principles of delivering belly dance classes in the community; Module 2 on 14 and 15 January focussed on the technique of delivering belly dance classes in the community; plus: Module 3 (an optional module that can also be taken on its own) on 4 and 5 February focussed on the history, current practice and variations of belly dance in the 21st Century. This third module also counts towards the full LBD Dance Teacher qualification.

Most of the course will be delivered by Katy C but other LBD teachers may be involved especially in providing opportunities for practical experience and teaching practice.

The venues will be in Bury and Prestwich (subject to numbers). If you would like to register your interest in the next foundation course, contact Katy C as soon as possible.
